Statistics

Nearly 25% of American women report being raped and/or
physically assaulted by a current or former spouse, cohabitating partner, or
date at some time in their life.
-
20% of violent crime against women was intimate partner
violence, compared to 3% of violent crime against men.

Marital rape accounts for 25% or all rapes, affecting
over 75,000 women each year.
- Approximately 20% of high school girls have
reported being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner.
- In 2001, women
accounted for 85 percent of the victims of intimate partner violence
(588,490 total) and men accounted for approximately 15 percent of the
victims (103,220 total).
Domestic
Violence Homicide
- In Arizona, a woman is murdered by
her husband or boyfriend every four days. In 2004, there were 80
domestic violence related homicides in Arizona.
- On average, more than
three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in this country
every day. In 2000, 1,247 women were killed by an intimate partner. The same
year, 440 men were killed by an intimate partner.
- Pregnant and recently
pregnant women are more likely to be victims of homicide than to die of any
other cause18 , and evidence exists that a significant proportion
of all female homicide victims are killed by their intimate partners.
- In 2000, intimate
partner homicides accounted for 33.5 percent of the murders of women and
less than four percent of the murders of men.

Sexual
Assault Statistics

Every 2.5 minutes, somewhere in
America someone is sexually assaulted,
approximately one of three are reported to law enforcement

67% of
sexual assaults were perpetrated by a non-stranger – 47% of perpetrators
were a friend or acquaintance of the victim, 17% were an intimate and 3%
were another relative.

Among high school students, 9%
reported that they have been forced to have sexual intercourse.

Among college students, between
20-25% of women experiencing completed or attempted sexual assault.

One in six women (17%) and on in
33 men (3%) report experiencing an attempted or completed rape at some time
in their lives.

Women who are raped by men they
know are less likely to report the crime than women who are raped by
strangers.

In Arizona, 1,849 forcible rapes
were committed in 2004, yielding an annual ration of one forcible rape
committed every 4 hours and 41 minutes.

Statistics
- About three in every ten Americans
will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives.
- For all crashes, the alcohol
involvement rate was 5 percent during the week and 12 percent during the
weekend
- 30% of all
fatal crashes during the week were alcohol-related, compared to 51%
on weekends.
- 60% of those killed in
single-vehicle crashes on weekend nights had BAC levels of .08 g/dl or
higher.
- 41% of motorcycle operators who
died in single-vehicle crashes in had BAC levels of .08 g/dl or higher.
