Programa de Compensacion para la Victima

The Crime Victims Compensation Program is state and federal monies set aside to assist victims of crime with out of pocket expenses that are a direct result of the crime.  Victims must apply for compensation in the county in which the crime occurred.  They must also meet the following eligibility requirements:

·        The crime occurs within Arizona

·        The crime is reported to law enforcement within 72 hours of discovery, unless there is good cause for delay

·        An application for the program is filed within 2 years of the discovery of the crime, unless there is good cause for delay

·        The victim willingly cooperates with law enforcement

·        The victim suffers physical injury or extreme mental distress as a direct result of the crime

·        The victim incurs economic loss as a direct result of the crime which is not covered by a collateral source.

Compensation is a payer of last resort and is not a guaranteed payment source, as funds are very limited.  Compensation can cover medical costs, counseling, funerals, and work loss.  It cannot pay for crime scene cleanup, property loss/repair, pain and suffering, attorney fees, or copying fees.  Persons who are serving a sentence of imprisonment or escaped imprisonment in a detention facility, home arrest, or work furlough are not eligible to receive compensation for victimization.

An application for Crime Victim Compensation Program can be obtained through Victim/Witness Services, either by requesting one to be mailed to you or by picking one up in person.  Advocates are also available to assist victims with filling the application out.  An electronic version can also be obtained either in English or Spanish.

For more information, please visit the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission website, or contact Wendy Kasprzyk-Roberts, Victim Compensation Program Coordinator, at  (928) 779-6163.

El personal y voluntarios ayudan a victimas del condado de Coconino a llenar sus aplicaciones de solicitud para recibir dinero para pagar, para pagar cuentas médicas, la funeraria, asesoramiento mental, y sueldo perdido por ser victima del crimen.
